2021 Update

Trinity would like to thank Pekin Rotary for a $500 grant to be used to puchase new coats, gloves, and hats. This grant will go a long way to helping provide warm outerwear to children in need in the Pekin Community.

The Giving Tree project began in 1976 at Trinity Lutheran Church. At that time we distributed hats, mittens and scarves to needy children at Jefferson School. We have since grown to serve Pekin District 108 preschool thru 6th grade schools, Schramm Educatioanl Center, and Good Sheperd Lutheran School. Children in need are given new winter coats, hats, and gloves/mittens. The Giving Tree is a project of the Board of Christian Service and the Board of Evangelism . With the help of this group and the donations of others, an average of 215 children are helped each year.

The principals of the schools are sent a letter and order forms. They in turn give their teachers the forms and ask them to list names and sizes that are needed by children of needy families. Trinity only asks for the child's first name. Children's last names, parent's names, and home addresses are never seen by us. The committee does its best to fill these requests and the items are delivered to the schools to distribute in mid-November.
